Changes of energy costs in Germany between January 2002 and April 2007

"Time for an oil change – cost cutters are changing!"

That was the headline in a press release by Holzenergie Schweiz in November 2004. The release continued, "The prices for heating oil are set to remain at a high level: so it might be worthwhile thinking about an alternative, for instance, wood-fuelled heaters. Energy from wood is not at risk from supply bottlenecks, its prices are stable and wood is a sustainable source of energy."

Oil prices today have not only remained at a high level, they have continued to rise. The chart shown here ("Development in the Price of Energy in Germany") reveals the ever increasing gap between heating oil and natural gas and, in this case, wood pellets as a fuel.

So it’s high time for an "oil change"!
